Touring car racing is also Opel territory. The company has celebrated a great many successes, especially on the brand's "home track", the Nurburgring Nordschleife. These include numerous class victories in the VLN Endurance Championship as well as the overall victory at the 24-hour race with an Astra V8 Coupe. Opel's affinity with the "Ring" is also apparent from the fact that GM and Opel operate a test center at the "green hell" itself, where especially all OPC high-performance variants are tested and fine-tuned for reliability and optimum handling in a rigorous 10000-km test program. Through its commitment to the VLN Championship, Opel is returning to its motorsport roots in amateur, grassroots sport. The objective is to facilitate affordable customer motorsport at a high technical standard. To this end, Opel has put together a package whitch is currently unrivalled in its scope. Customer vehicles will compete against each other in all 10 rounds of the VLN season for a dedicated brand trophy - the Astra OPC Cup. A prize fund which awards attractive cash prizes to the most successful Cup drivers provides a further sporting incentive
